DeMar DeRozan on Dillon Brooks: “I Just Don’t Like Him”

Chicago Bulls All-Star DeMar DeRozan opened up about his feelings regarding Dillon Brooks and the end of the 2024 season.

Honestly, it’s hard to find anybody in the league with a nice thing to say about Dillon Brooks. He’s made an enemy of Draymond Green and squared up Donovan Mitchell. Hell, he’s even pissed off whole teams. Who can forget the Memphis Grizzlies notifying Brooks that they would not resign him “under any circumstances“? Chicago Bulls All-Star DeMar DeRozan appeared on the 25/10 Show this week to confirm that he, too, is not fond of the Rockets guard.

If you pay attention to the NBA, this revelation isn’t much a revelation. DeRozan and Brooks got into a scuffle this season after DeRozan flagrantly fouled Jalen Green. It brings me no pleasure to say this, but you gotta hand it to Brooks on this one. The move from DeRozan was cheap, and Brooks was right to rush to defend his younger teammate.

DeMar DeRozan sees things differently, of course. He told the cast of 25/10 “I’m not going to lie, I just don’t like him.” He further criticized Brooks, saying he broke DeRozan’s “number one” rule- approaching a man from behind. It’s interesting to see DeRozan take this stance. Approaching a guy from behind is a no-no, but admitting he trucked Green because he didn’t get a foul call seems like it should get the same treatment.

“I’m not going to lie, I just don’t like him…and for two, don’t walk up behind me, that’s rule number one, don’t walk up on no man behind him when his back’s turned.”

To be fair to DeRozan, he also admitted his “frustration” ultimately spelled bad news for Chicago’s season. DeRozan and the Bulls lost to the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament for the second year in a row, which I’m sure stung extra considering Jimmy Butler began his career in the Windy City. DeRozan told his hosts “(I) Hate missed opportunities”. He further commented “I think it really hits you at the end of the season, when you look up and the last seconds run off and you know you don’t have another game.” 2025 will be DeRozan’s 15th season, so it looks like he might not have a lot of games left himself. It is likely he will return to the Bulls, but with no contract offer in place, his future is not certain.
