Deion Sanders has the Colorado Buffaloes on the cusp of being bowl-eligible. With just two more wins, they could achieve something that the program has only accomplished twice since 2010.
Although two wins doesn’t seem like much, the remainder of the Buffaloes schedule is rather difficult. They play host a 1-4 Stanford team Friday and could very well secure their fifth win of the season. After that, they play four ranked Pac-12 opponents and an unranked Arizona. The ranked teams include No. 19 Washington State, No. 18 UCLA, No. 16 Utah and No. 15 Oregon State. The Pac-12 conference is loaded this year and the fact that Colorado could escape with a 6-6 record is impressive.
Despite being close to achieving something special for a program that won just one game last year, Sanders is focused on one day at a time.
“We want to win,” Sanders said in a recent news conference, according to On3. “I don’t give a damn about no bowl right now. We want to win. If that’s part of the package at the conclusion of the season of winning — I’m all for it.
“But that’s one of my least concerns right now is a bowl.”
As mentioned earlier, they have a good chance to beat Stanford and could be competitive against the other ranked teams as well. If Colorado can perform as they did against USC, we could see an upset or two. Their defense is questionable at times, but their offense shows flashes of greatness that keep them competitive against superior teams.
Regardless of how it plays out, this team is fun to watch and the numbers support that. Sanders has been able to flip the switch for this program and a bowl game this season could help their recruiting process even more.
