Deebo Samuel Given Permission To Seek Trade By 49ers

It sure seems entirely possible that Deebo Samuel has played his final game for the 49ers. The former South Carolina product has been given permission to seek a trade by San Francisco.

VIA Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

“Sources say the 49ers are expected to explore trading Samuel this offseason. While it’s not a certainty that Samuel is done in San Francisco, it’s enough of a possibility that both sides appear to be at peace with moving on if it goes that way.”

Samuel, 29, definitely had a down season in 2024. He posted just 51 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns, which is a far cry from his normal career averages. Did Deebo lose a step, was he not healthy, or is it time for a change of scenery? Maybe it’s all three.

Based on Deebo having a down season, I can’t imagine the 49ers are asking for an arm and a leg in return. Keep in mind that he’s due 17.55 million next year, which is the final year of a three-year extension he signed back in 2022.

After giving Brandon Aiyuk way too much money and taking Ricky Pearsall in the first round, it seems pretty obvious that San Francisco wants to move on. Now it’s about finding the right trade package and the right taker that Deebo will be happy to play for.

Personally speaking, I’d love to see the Bills jump in here if the cost is reasonable but that’s a story we can talk about in another article.
