Chad is going to be pissed… Our fantasy draft is before the NFL Draft and Chad spent a lot of money on DeAndre Hopkins. Turns out, Hopkins was naughty and got caught using PED’s. The Cardinals wide receiver has been suspended for the first six games of the 2022 NFL Season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
This is crushing news for the Cardinals and Kyler Murray. DeAndre Hopkins is arguably the best wide receiver in football and impacts the game in an undeniable way. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. However, if you need some stats… I got them for you.
Murray went 1-4 with Hopkins out of the lineup and 8-2 when Hopkins was on the field. Murray’s QBR with Hopkins off the field was 46, compared to 62 with Hopkins on the field via ESPN stats and info. I think those numbers are pretty self explanatory, right? Fantasy owners get the point.
Many of us were also curious why the Cardinals sent a first round pick for Marquise Brown. Felt like a big overpay. Well, maybe now we know why. Without Hopkins, the Cards kinda need Brown. Christian Kirk is gone. There really isn’t another reliable answer no the roster minus Rondale Moore taking a step forward.
Arizona will have to survive the first six weeks of the season without Hopkins. In the NFC West, that’s a huge deal. There is no margin for error. I’m going to go with this is not the news the Cardinals were hoping for.
