‘Dead Island 2’ has sold over a million copies since release
The zombie video game genre has changed a lot since 2011. Some would say that the genre has run its course and that the constant stream of new zombie games has made it stale and unoriginal. Despite these claims, Dead Island 2 has not only been a massive hit since its release on April 21, but it has made a massive amount of money to boot. With over a million copies of the game sold, it’s clear that either the genre isn’t really in such a slouch, or that Dead island 2 is a really good game.
A Long Time Coming
Since the release of the original Dead Island in 2011 and the release of the iconic announcement trailer in 2014, one could argue that Dead Island 2 is the most anticipated zombie game of all time. The amount of support, speculation, ups and downs the game has had over the years cannot be understated. Now that it’s finally here, the anticipation has largely been met it appears. The sheer success the title has seen in just a few days is proof enough of this.
What’s Next For Dead Island?
Developers Deep Silver took nearly a decade to finish Dead Island 2. It would be foolish to try and determine what they’ve cooked up, if anything, for a Dead Island 3. Instead, as the game sells more copies and makes more money for the studio, we might see potential DLC in the future. But if that were to come, it wouldn’t arrive for a while — the game did just release after all.
But for now, Deep Silver is probably taking a step back to admire their work, and to count the dollars rolling in.
