Dave Portnoy has now thrown his hat into the pile. After Donald Trump celebrated the announcement of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merging, the Barstool founder sang a very different tune. Portnoy aimed fire and fury toward Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour.
He ripped Monahan a new one, considering his past quotes surrounding LIV. He’s not the only one, either. Large parts of the sports media world are calling Monahan out for his backstabbing. Check out the Portnoy’s video from his Twitter below:

Unsurprisingly, this is very a terrible look for the commissioner. Credit to Portnoy for not allowing this to slip under the rug in the midst of all the huge news.
The best thing Monahan could have done is just tone down his language because now, only months after using 9/11 as moral ammo, he looks like a complete clown.
I’m not sure how Jay Monahan will be able to look at those “two families” he knows in the eyes after all of this went down. In case you’re wondering, we do have a response from the community of 9/11 victims:
“We will never forget.” 9/11 Families United rips the PGA in blistering statement:

“PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan co-opted the 9/11 community last year in the PGA’s unequivocal agreement that the Saudi LIV project was nothing more than sportswashing of Saudi Arabia’s reputation.…
If he had just been honest and brought up the money this would have been a different story. Portnoy made that abundantly clear in his video. He even said that he wouldn’t turn down the money if offered to move Barstool’s HQ to Saudi Arabia.
Again, the general headline of uniting the game of golf isn’t the problem here. In reality, the problem is how Monahan sat next to LIV President Yasir Al-Rumayyan on CNBC earlier today despite basically alluding to LIV Golf as terrorist-owned only months ago. You can only imagine the kind of backlash on Twitter that exists from fans and pundits alike.
There are unsurprisingly all different kinds of reactions to the news of the merger. Once again, Jay Monahan deserves the heat aimed at him. This was a cop-out of the worst degree. In all honesty, the best thing he could do now is just step down before his image gets even worse.
