Less than a week after he was released by the New York Jets, wide receiver Davante Adams has found a new home!
The six-time pro bowler is heading to Southern California to join the Los Angeles Rams on a two-year, $46 million deal, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported Sunday.
Adams, 32, will have $26 million guaranteed with his new contract. Accoridng to Spotrac, he will have an $14 million cap hit in 2025 with a $30 million cap hit in 2026. He will have $1 million in annual incentives, which have not been disclosed.
His base salary for each season will be $8 million and $18 million, respectively.
The three-time All-Pro will essentially serve as the Cooper Kupp replacement in Sean McVay’s offense. He is still technically on the team, but a return to the team is unlikely for the 32-year-old.
The Rams would save $7.5 million off of Kupp’s $29.8 million cap hit if he was cut pre-June 1, while a trade would save them $12.5 million, according to Over The Cap. Either way, Adams will be the cheaper option heading into the 2025 season.
He hauled in 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns last season, his lowest marks since 2019.
Matthew Stafford is a more effective signal caller than both Aaron Rodgers (at this stage of his career) and Gardner Minshew. I’m not sure how much juice Adams has left, but he could be an interesting secondary option opposite of Puka Nacua in McVay’s offense for at least one season.
