Darien Porter 2025 NFL Draft Profile

I have a lot of things to say about Darien Porter. After reading this, I think the smart people will all be on the same page when it comes to this one. We don’t have any time to waste so without further ado, here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Iowa State cornerback!

Porter, 24, was a three star recruit coming out of high school, but that doesn’t tell the full story. During the 2019 cycle, Porter was listed as the 64th ranked receiver and sixth ranked player in the state of Iowa. He spent all five seasons with the Cyclones.

This is a lot of the problem that I have with Porter. It took him SIX years to become a part time starter. That’s not a joke. He started seven of 12 games this past year. He moved from wide receiver to defensive back after his fourth year in college. He has basically zero production during his first five collegiate season. This past year, Porter notched 18 tackles, two PBUs, and three picks.

At the Combine, I think we saw everything we needed to see. It was one of the worst performances at the entire event. Feel free to click that link for all the notes there. It’s just plainly obvious he’s a converted wide receiver, except one who has zero feel for his new position. Can’t bend his knees, short area quickness was trash, and looked like a lost puppy. Ran a fast time, but when your on-field looks like that, who the hell cares?

Being 6-foot-3, 193, with over 33 inch arms is cool. He also played special teams for a long time and blocked four kicks during his collegiate career. The speed is also a box checked. All of that stuff is great… as long as we’re on the same page that this is a total project and he can’t be picked anywhere inside the top five rounds.

I can keep dumping on the guy but I think you get the point. The fact that I have to even explain why an old player who took six years to be a part time starter while still having no feel for the position he plays shouldn’t be something that’s hard to comprehend. I have an undrafted grade on Darien Porter and I’m shocked so many people are taking this seriously.
