Danny Ainge Laughs At The Idea That The Celtics Are Better Without Kyrie Irving & Gordon Hayward

The Boston Celtics were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 7. LeBron did what he normally does and made another Finals appearance. I’ve said this multiple times, this season does not matter for the Celtics because Boston celebrates titles, not Finals appearances. It’s hard to even be mad that the Celtics were eliminated in the playoffs because most pundits even predicted that they would lose in the first round to Milwaukee because the team was missing their best two players because of injuries. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge laughed at the idea of the Celtics being better without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

“I get a kick out of the fact that everywhere I go, people don’t think we need Kyrie or need Gordon Hayward,” Ainge said at the Celtics’ exit interviews on Monday. “I have a much longer memory and remember how great those guys were and what an effort it took us to get them. I also remember how great they are and how young they are still. So we need Gordon and Kyrie, absolutely need them. If this playoff run and all the series of the playoffs didn’t show that, then I don’t know what does. We were able to win some games and we were able to fight through some tough battles, but we’re much, much better with Kyrie and Gordon.”

The Lead Word – NBA Conference Finals Pt 2 – 5.22.18

If the Celtics took the Cavs 7 games without their two superstars, it’s hard not to think that the Celtics would probably have beaten the Cavs in 5 games. If you take the best two players off of any team, that would be catastrophic to any franchise. Boston deserves a lot of credit for what they accomplished and may have the brightest future of any team in the NBA.
