After a long battle of tug-of-war on how much Daniel Jones should get paid, it has finally happened. Daniel Jones and the New York Giants have agreed to a four-year deal worth $160 million, according to Ian Rapoport.
“We had productive conversations with Daniel and his representatives over the course of the past week or so,” said general manager Joe Schoen. “We are all pleased that we were able to come to an agreement prior to today’s deadline. This gives us a greater ability to continue to build our roster.” Via Giants Press Release.
Jones will earn $160 million over the course of the next four years, with his contract ending in 2027. Jones will then enter unrestricted free agency. He can earn up to $35 million in incentives over the course of his contract. He will earn $94 million guaranteed and earn $40 million for an annual average salary each year. His first two years will make him around $82 million and have a cap hit of $19 million in his first year.
“I said after the season I love this place,” Jones said. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I want to be here. I have great respect for this organization, the Maras, the Tisches, my coaches and teammates. I am happy we were able to come to an agreement.” Via Giants Press Release.
Regardless of the absurd amount of money Jones wanted, New York still got the deal done. This leads to very few veteran QBs on the board for free agency. With Lamar Jackson recently being tagged today, this only leads to only a handful of QBs on the market. Some notable names include Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, and more.
