UFC CEO Dana White is optimistic that a fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will be the biggest heavyweight UFC fight of all time. If that isn’t enough, he thinks it could be the biggest fight in the promotion’s history.
White discussed his opinion on a potential fight between Jones and Aspinall in his UFC 309 post-fight press conference.
“It’s going to be the biggest heavyweight fight of all time,” White said. “It will probably be the biggest fight we have ever done.”
A fight between Jones and Aspinall has picked up a lot of hype. That is natural considering Jones is the defending heavyweight champion while Aspinall is the interim champion. The fight has only grown in anticipation since Jones has shown pessimism toward the bout.
Jones has stated that he will only fight Aspinall if he is compensated with ‘f**k you money‘. It seems like White is willing to pony up and ensure Jones gets the money he wants.
White has high expectations for Jones and Aspinall. It is very possible the bout could be the biggest heavyweight fight of all time. Jones is one of the most recognizable names in MMA and he is riding hot with consecutive finish victories at heavyweight. Meanwhile, Aspinall is the most difficult fight imaginable.
That said, the bout will not be the biggest of all time. The hype surrounding UFC 229 between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be topped anytime soon.
White’s opinion on Jones versus Aspinall should be thrilling for fans who want to see the bout. The prospect of making a massive bout should add incentive to get bout agreements signed.
