Dana White ‘Hates’ The Idea Of Donald Cerrone Unretiring

UFC veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has expressed he wants to come out of retirement for two more fights; however, UFC CEO Dana White did not love the idea.

White reacted to Cerrone’s interest in fighting again in his Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 8, Episode 10 post-fight interview. All quotes via TheScore MMA.

“I hate it,” White said. “I hate it. Love him, hate that. He retired. For what? What’s left to prove? If you want to make money, let’s figure something else out.”

“When guys retire, they retire for a reason. … They retire because they know it’s over. They know it is.”

Cerrone retired at UFC 276 in June of 2022. If Cerrone does return to MMA, he would have to return from approximately two and half years on the sidelines.

Cerrone went out on a poor run of fights. In his last seven fights, he finished with six losses and a no-contest.

The motive for Cerrone’s unretirement is clear. At the time of retiring, he has 48 fights under the Zuffa banner. That includes 38 UFC fights and 10 WEC fights. Cerrone’s goal is to log two more fights and reach 50 professional bouts with the company. That question is if that is necessary. ‘Cowboy’ has an ironclad legacy.

“Every time we’re at a show, when you show ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone on the screen, the place goes nuts. He’s beloved. He’s beloved because the guy goes to war, and he’s been in wars for years. It’s time to not go to war anymore, man. There’s nothing left to prove for him.”

The craziest part of this whole situation is that Cerrone may be able to win fights if he returns to the UFC. In his retirement post, he explained that he has been taking TRT and peptides which would mean he has to pass a drug test before returning. That may be enough to get him victories against other aging veterans.
