Dak Prescott has signed a record-breaking extension with the Dallas Cowboys for 4-years, $240 million which includes $231 million guaranteed. This was first reported by Ian Rapoport on Twitter/X:
Dak Prescott is now the highest paid player in the NFL for the time-being. This deal from the Dallas Cowboys comes soon after the Cowboys signed CeeDee Lamb to a 4-year extension for $136 million. The Cowboys now have Prescott and CD Lamb under contract for at least 4 years trying to contend for a Super Bowl. While there have been criticisms to Dak Prescott, he does have some success with the Cowboys in the regular season. However, he has only won 2 games in the playoffs since 2016, his rookie year. He has a playoff record of 2-5.
While this may not all be Dak Prescott’s fault entirely, one has to wonder if he deserved this deal or should have the Cowboys looked elsewhere before making Dak Prescott the highest paid player in the NFL. All eyes are on Prescott now. He has to perform now. He got the best deal anyone has ever gotten to date, only making it to the divisional round is simply not good enough for the contract of this stature. The Championship window is open and with this deal, it’s closing slowly by the second. As more time passes, the likelihood of a Super Bowl diminishes. Will never hate a man for getting his money (see Kirk Cousins), but the question on whether he deserved it is completely fair and valid. It’s your time to shine Prescott, let’s see if you can at least get to the NFC Championship.
