Martavis Bryant is back. I can’t believe it either but it’s actually happening. Bryant has not played in an NFL game since 2018. That did not stop the Cowboys from signing him. Bryant has been suspended and has been applying for reinstatement for what seems like forever. Now the Clemson product is actually back in the league.
Shams Charania of The Athletic was the first to report the news:
Does anyone else find it strange that Shams was the first one to report this news? No? Okay, I’ll continue.
Bryant, 31, did play football this past Summer for the Vegas Vipers of the XFL. Does that matter to anyone? I have no idea how that translates but Bryant must be in alright enough shape for the Cowboys to sign him.
Dallas is signing Bryant to their practice squad so don’t expect to see him on the field right away. I’m sure they’re going to make him grind through practices first. It remains to be seen if Bryant can actually help Dallas.
Bryant, a 2014 NFL Draft fourth-round selection out of Clemson, just has never lived up to the potential he has. Bryant is 6-foot-4 and can really run. Or at least could back then. He scored 14 touchdowns during his first two years in the league. He made me really happy as a fantasy owner until you couldn’t trust him anymore. It’s been a long time since this guy has been on the field.
Time will tell if this works out. Dallas should probably be more fearful that he doesn’t get suspended again rather than if he can actually help them.
