The Cowboys Need To Use KaVontae Turpin More

The Cowboys have problems but they aren’t total idiots either. Dallas is currently 3-7 on the season and might not win another game the rest of the way with Dak Prescott out for the rest of the year. You see, the Browns just suck. They don’t do anything right. Meanwhile, the Cowboys suck with the best kicker and return man in the league. Speaking of KaVontae Turpin… wouldn’t it be a good idea to simply use him more often?

Again, credit to Dallas. They got Brandon Aubrey and Turpin for basically nothing. They didn’t have to even spend a draft pick on either. Dumb organizations don’t find a way to make those type of things happen. Dallas has drafted well for the most part. CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons didn’t just show up one day. The Cowboys had to hit on their picks to make that happen. Frankly, a lot of the problems in Dallas stem from overpaying Dak restricting their ability to improve the rest of the roster. Something Minnesota understands and have rebounded nicely since letting Kirk Cousins leave.

The Cowboys need help everywhere on this roster. Beyond Lamb, they don’t have a reliable pass catcher either. Jake Ferguson is a more than fine tight end. Still, they don’t have a secondary target to alleviate stress. Using Turpin more often would be a great way to do this.

Maybe I’m asking too much here because asking Mike McCarthy to be more creative is a laughable concept. Maybe the next coach who comes in will figure this part out. I just don’t understand how Dallas doesn’t have more plays drawn up to get the ball in Turpin’s hands.

Nobody is suggesting the offense should run through Turpin. Yes, we get that the guy is 150 pounds soaking wet. It doesn’t change the fact that Dallas is desperate for help on offense and they don’t involve their speediest weapon. He’s barely on the field beyond his normal special teams role.

This season is lost but next season, whoever takes over needs to recognize that Turpin can help this team. It’s a matter of being smart enough to utilize him in the right way. Figure it out. This shouldn’t be hard. Imagine if Dallas used financial resources to pay Derrick Henry and involved Turpin more in the pass catching department. Maybe Dallas would have something… except Jerry Jones was too stubborn and thought Brandin Cooks would fix their problems. Just dumb…
