Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor is more focused on a career in Irish politics than his return to the octagon. ‘The Notorious” did not close the door on a return to combat sports, but politics are his current focus.
McGregor discussed his future in combat sports and politics in the BKFC 70 post-fight press conference.
“I’ve got two fights on the contract; I’m in negotiations,” McGregor said. “Last week, something happened to me. I went to the White House. My country is in my… my heart bleeds for my country right now. There is a lot of stuff going on back home. I’m happy with what I’ve done. There is something else for me that is in my gut right now.”
McGregor has taken his dive into politics very seriously. The Irishman has already announced that he will run for president.
The key aspects of McGregor’s campaign are reworking the country’s immigration policy, shifting power from the politicians to the people, and a co-sign from Donald Trump.
McGregor did not close the door to fighting. In fact, becoming the president could even entice him to return.
“And now entering the octagon, The Notorious President of Ireland Conor McGregor,” McGregor said when asked if he wanted to fight during a potential presidency. “Well, f***ing right I will. Of course, are you crazy? That’s part of why I want to do it, to be announced as the President of Ireland, having a fight. Imagine that, you know for sure. Hell yes.“
The next Irish presidential election will take place in November 2025. McGregor’s immediate future in politics will be decided by year’s end.
