Connor Hellebuyck Decided To Stay With Winnipeg After The Pierre-Luc Dubois Trade?

The Pierre-Luc Dubois trade keeps turning into the gift that keeps on giving. The Kings just fired Todd McLellan and the Jets looked poised to be Stanley Cup contenders. The butterfly effect is so real. Oh, and apparently that trade somehow convinced Connor Hellebuyck to stay with the Jets.

“I know after talking to him, he was very pleased with the trade we made with the L.A. Kings,” Bowness said of his goaltender Thursday as the 2024 NHL All-Star festivities began, thinking back to the off-season that set up Winnipeg’s revival. “He wanted to make sure that we were invested in winning the Stanley Cup. He told us after the season — the Vezina, yeah, the money, yeah, but he wants to win the Stanley Cup.

“I think after we made the trade, and he saw that we were making the good moves that we made — that we’re a stronger team, that he has a chance to win — I think that had more bearing than anything.”

Isn’t that incredible? Hellebuyck went from “I’m not signing an extension” to being convinced to return. All because they dumped that cancer Dubois. Isn’t it funny that Hellebuyck thought the Jets got better by dumping Dubois? That’s exactly what happened.

If this doesn’t convince you that Pierre-Luc Dubois is a bum then nothing will.

Hellebuyck stated several times that he was not interested in a rebuild. It turns out the Jets are very much not in a rebuild. They’re just two points out of first place in the Central and just landed Sean Monahan. Can the Jets actually win the Cup this year?
