The Colts have already replaced their quarterback. Now they’re replacing their head coach too. Jim Irsay has seen enough and Frank Reich is officially out. Indianapolis is officially looking for a new head coach as the franchise has fired Reich.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
The Patriots are always a sore subject for the Colts. Impulsive Jim Irsay watched his team lose 26-3 to Mac Jones and knew just then someone had to be fired. In fairness, Reich fired offensive coordinator Marcus Brady recently so when the offense didn’t turn around this week, he put himself right into the spotlight.
I question why Chris Ballard wasn’t the one to lose his job. I use this stat all the time. Chris Ballard was hired in 2017 and still hasn’t won the god awful AFC South. In fact, Blake Bortles has more division titles since that time and he’s out of the league. Maybe point the finger at the guy that can’t draft and left his team stranded with the poo poo platter of Sam Ehlinger / Matt Ryan? Food for thought.
Reich, 60, gets let go while the Colts currently sports a 3-5-1 record. Reich ends his Colts tenure with an overall record of 40-33-1. It’s a respectable record given the fact that Ballard never provided him with a real quarterback the entire time. Reich will likely get another job again as an offensive coordinator elsewhere eventually.
Reich might have lost his job but he will always have that Super Bowl ring with the Eagles. You can never take that away from him. The job he did with Nick Foles down that stretch with the Eagles will forever keep Reich a living legend.
