It’s time (insert Bruce Buffer voice) to do the 2025 NFL Draft profile on CJ West. We’re talking shop on all the juicy details for the Indiana defensive tackle. Feel free to comment, but I’m going to get to the point now if you don’t mind.
NFL Draft Stock Report: East-West (1), (2), (3), (4)
West, 22, was a three star prospect coming out of high school. The La Grange Park, Illinois, native was ranked as the 99th overall DL and 28th player in the state. Checking in at 6-foot-1, 316, West spent four years at Kent State before finishing up at Indiana this past season.
We saw West at the East-West Game. He had some hype coming out of that process, but I think some of it was really unwarranted. In fairness to him, I thought he looked rough the first day and got better throughout. That’s a good sign, but if you want to read more on that, all the links are there for you at the top.
The positive is that he carried some positive momentum after the Combine. His performance there was pretty decent. Not world beating but showed some positives. Again, those in-depth details can be found in the link.
This is the thing on West that nobody seems to be talking about. This goes beyond the fact that he really wasn’t a killer playing against poo poo teams at Kent State. At Indiana, he had the fourth highest sack total on the team. When I say that, I mean three other defensive tackles ranked ahead of him. If you read my stock report notes throughout the year, you probably recall notes on Mikail Kamara and James Carpenter. I viewed those guys as better talents. Sooo how good is West if he’s maybe the third best defensive tackle on his own college team as an older player?
The redshirt senior made Honorable Mention All-Big Ten Conference and helped Indiana towards the number one run defense in America. That is the positive. He’s not overly long, but he has spaz energy and has 4.95 speed with plus footwork.
I’m much lower on CJ West than the consensus. I’m probably not going any higher than the 6th or 7th round. I assume he won’t be on the board by that time, and I’ve gotten him in exactly zero mock draft simulators.
