The answer to this question appears to be a resounding yes. The New York Rangers are actually moving on from Chris Kreider, and they’re taking a similar path to what they did with Jacob Trouba. The Ducks happily obliged to another Rangers cap dump, and Kreider has officially signed off on the deal.
Larry Brooks of the New York Post was the first to report that the deal was going through. Frank Seravalli was the first to drop the full details of the trade.
The full trade looks like this:
Kreider and Anaheim’s 2025 4th Round Pick gets returned back to them.
The Rangers get prospect Carey Terrance and Toronto’s 2025 3rd Round Pick. So in totality, the Rangers get a middle tier prospect and move up 15 slots in the draft.
Kreider did have a 15-team no-trade list, and the Ducks were one of the teams on that list. Maybe Trouba’s presence in Anaheim helped pave the way for this to happen. For the first time in his 13-year career, Kreider will play for someone other than the Rangers.
Kreider, 34, had a down year a season ago, but was also dealing with vertigo. Despite that, he still notched 22 goals and eight assists in 68 games. It’s understandable why the Rangers wanted to get off the $6.5 million number, but Kreider is still a valuable piece even at this stage of his career. He’s going to be a steady net front prescence and really help their powerplay.
