Chris Johnson In Stable Condition

Former New York Jets running back Chris Johnson has been shot during a drive-by shooting that occured at 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The incident occurred in Orlando Florida where Johnson resides in the offseaon. CJ2k is in stable condition after being shot in the shoulder.

Dreekius Oricko Johnson, the driver of the vehicle was killed by gunfire, according to reports from the Orange County sheriff’s department. Chris and Reggie Johnson were passengers who thankfully were able to escape in stable condition. No arrests have been made yet.

This unfortunate news could not have come at a worse time. Johnson is currently a free agent looking for a new home. The drive-by shooting will be his second off the field mistake since the end of the season. In January he was arrested and later charged for carrying of a firearm. Later that month he also pointed fingers towards former G.M. John Idzik saying.

“Throughout the whole thing, I think last year, with that organization, I think a lot of the stuff was out of Rex’s hands,” Johnson said. “A lot of the things that we were doing I think it was out of Rex’s hands. Don’t nobody know, but it was a [bad] situation.”

“That’s just what it was. It was never a type of thing where I was just being outplayed or anything like that. It was never a situation where I got the opportunity to show my talents and be used the way that I was supposed to be used.”

Although there have been a couple of off the field incidents I don’t believe we have seen the last of CJ2K. The former 1st round pick from East Carolina holds the combine record with a 4.24, 40 yard dash time and rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2009. Some team will take a chance on him even if it means for a minimum salary. There are a bevy of teams that have runningback needs such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Indy, Dallas, and San Francisco to name a few.
