Chris Godwin re-signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One of the Bucs best receivers is back in Tampa on a 3-year, $66 million deal which includes $44 million guaranteed. This was first reported by Ian Rapoport on BlueSky:
Chris Godwin makes his way back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after much deliberation if he would return or go to a new team. Despite being injured last year, Chris Godwin got a healthy paycheck to stay with the team that drafted him. Before being injured in 2024, Godwin was a 1,000 yard receiver the 3 years before that. He got at least 83 receptions or more in those 3 years which includes a 100 reception year and another year that he had 98 receptions.
With Godwin being 3 years younger than Mike Evans, the Bucs locked up Godwin for another 3 years to keep the duo together. As Mike Evans is starting to leave his prime, the Bucs are hoping that Godwin can return to it after his injury. After Jalen McMillian emerged last year as a rookie, the Bucs have a nice trio for Baker Mayfield to utilize to get back to the playoffs in a weak NFC South.
His contract is the tied for the 18th highest contract for WRs in the NFL. He is actually getting paid more than his counterpart in Mike Williams on a average scale. This contract should be good for the Bucs if Chris Godwin can get back to form after an injury. If not, they can let him walk when he is 31 and another team can hope that he has any juice left to him. We’ll see how well Godwin recovers from his injury this next year.
