Chip Kelly Hates Ashton Jeanty’s RB Stance

First-year Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is old; 61 is over the hill and his age is showing with this. This screams out “Get off my lawn vibes.”

Apparently, Kelly hates Ashton Jeanty‘s running back stance. Alright, he didn’t flat out say that, but if he’s trying to change it, he doesn’t like it. Jeanty shares what Chip Kelly told him during an interview with Kay Adams, according to ProFootballTalk:

“You know, sometimes you’ve got to go with the flow,” Jeanty said. “What’s crazy is Chip Kelly comes up to me the first day of rookie mini-camp. He was like, ‘Have you ever played basketball?’ Yeah, I’ve played basketball. I can dunk, all that. He was like, ‘Show me how you can guard me?’ He’s holding the ball and then he’s like, ‘That’s exactly why you’ve got to be down in your running back stance.’ He won for now. I’m going to try and persuade him one day. I’ve got to earn my stripes, make some plays first. But I don’t think it’s going to be the end.”

Jeanty’s RB stance is iconic and I’d like to think it struck fear into the Mountain West teams that he had to play this year.

However, Kelly is right from a coaching standpoint. He wants Ashton Jeanty to do things the right way, as I would when coaching. It’s just not as fun and makes him look really old. Telling young whipper-snappers that they need to change their RB stance cause it’s not “traditional,” get with the times, grandpa.

Maybe Jeanty can wear the old-timer down to let him do his iconic stance again, or maybe the RB stance is a thing of the past that we will never get to experience again.
