The Kansas City Chiefs have to figure out a way to re-sign Eric Berry and Dontari Poe by the start of free agency. Today they decided to take care of a different avenue locking up starting guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had the details of the contract.

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, the former 6th round pick in 2014, was one of the more productive guards in football a year ago. He ranked 27th best among guards according to Pro Football Focus with a 78.4 player grade. Prior to this move, the Chiefs had about $4 million in cap space according to Spotrac. It’s safe to say the Chiefs will have to make some roster cuts if they plan on keeping any of their impending free agents.
