The Chiefs Need To Trade For Christian McCaffrey

The fire sale in Carolina is on the way following the news of Matt Rhule being fired. DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey are two pieces that could be really coved on the trade market with Carolina going into tank mode. If there is one team that needs to go out and make a move, it’s this Chiefs team.

I get it. Anybody that didn’t pick the Chiefs to win the AFC West should be viewed as a moron. Patrick Mahomes with time can win a lot of games. Make no mistake about it, this Chiefs team could very well win it again this year.

But what if they’re a piece away? Sometimes it’s better to leave no stone unturned. Did anybody just see what the Mets just did?

IF there is anything that Brett Veach has gotten wrong, it’s the running back and wide receiver positions. Veach pulled the trigger on Clyde Edwards-Helaire ahead of D’Andre Swift… Not great.

Veach also just picked Skyy Moore ahead of George Pickens… Not great.

When you make mistakes in the draft, it will always come back to bite you. It costs you double the amount because Kansas City realistically should fix both issues via trade. While DJ Moore may be an attractive piece for KC, his trade cost may be out of reach. Wasn’t the whole point of trading Tyreek Hill because you couldn’t afford a high priced wide out?

McCaffrey is different. The truth of the matter is, there aren’t enough layups in this Chiefs offense and it could prove to be a fatal flaw come playoff time. Is CEH picking up that key first down on a third and six check down? CMC picks up those yards and it makes all the difference in the world.

McCaffrey, 26, is currently healthy and is far from the problem in Carolina. On 72 attempts through five weeks, CMC is averaging 4.5 yards per carry while also adding another 26 receptions in the passing game. He’s still really good and a total game-changer.

We also know Andy Reid loves utilizing the screen game. He hasn’t had a running back that could do it since Brian Westbrook. You give Big Red that kind of back with Mahomes? Lord have mercy on the rest of the league.

Yes, the $12 million cap hit is a lot for any running back. Figure it out. The Panthers are tanking anyway. Have them eat some of the salary. Get it done. Make it happen.

Do you really want to risk this Chiefs? Travis Kelce is awesome but what else do you have? Can you count on JuJu Smith-Schuster when it matters most? McCaffrey is the guy that can really change your fortunes. Don’t let Buffalo win this race (and they will. Brandon Beane is a former Panther executive).
