The Chicago Cubs have acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman was among the first to report Friday.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan first reported that the deal was complete.
The deal is expected to include corner infielder Isaac Paredes, who the Cubs acquired at the deadline for utilityman Christopher Morel, plus right-hander Hayden Wesneski and 3B prospect Cam Smith, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
It was reported earlier this week that the Astros would listen on “anybody,” including the three-time All-Star entering the last year of his current contract.
Tucker, who turns 28-years-old in January, is one of the most underrated stars in baseball. He was limited to just 78 games last year due to injury, but still sported a .993 OPS with 23 home runs, 49 RBIs and 11 stolen bases with a 4.7 bWAR in 339 plate appearances.
In his last fully healthy season, the 6-foot-4 outfielder led the American League in RBIs (112), slashing .284/.369/.517 (.886 OPS; 142 OPS+) with 37 doubles, five triples and 29 homers with 30 stolen bags. He’s an above-average defensive outfielder and will immediately help a Cubs offense that’s been mediocre for the better part of the last four seasons.
