Chase Winovich Retires At Age 28

Former New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins linebacker Chase Winovich announced Wednesday that he was stepping away from football.

The time has come for me to serve the universe in other ways,” Winovich wrote on social media. “I consider myself beyond blessed and deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to play the game I love in front of so many and on some of the world’s biggest stages. To quote my friend Matthew Slater ‘We all owe football something’ and that I certainly do.”

Winovich, now 28, was drafted by New England out of Michigan in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. During those three years, Winovich recorded 11 sacks, 85 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 23 QB hits.

In 2022, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns, spending one year there. He then signed with the Texans in 2023, didn’t make their roster, but signed with the Dolphins and played three games for them this season. The Dolphins cut him last week.

Winovich was first-team All-Big Ten for the Wolverines at defensive end in both 2017 and 2018 under Jim Harbaugh. He led the 2020 Patriots with 5.5 sacks.

Not only would I, and all those who play vicariously through me, go on to play in the NFL, but we also went on to be named MVP and team’s hardest worker at Michigan,” Winovich proclaimed in the post. “Then we led the 2020 Patriots in sacks. We did that.”

Winovich should be immensely proud of his accomplishments, and we all look forward to seeing what he has in store for the next stage of his life.
