The hall of fame player says “morale sucks” amid rumors of an end to Inside the NBA.
Charles Barkley has never been one to hold back his opinion. In fact, it’s one of the things that endears him most to basketball fans and viewers of TNT’s Inside the NBA. Whether it’s about San Antonio’s large ladies, or Galveston’s awful beaches, Chuck speaks his mind. As TNT’s deal with the NBA comes to an end, Chuck let us have it.
The NBA is preparing to finalize a new deal to split broadcasting rights between Disney, Amazon, and NBC. A consequence of this move would be the end of Inside the NBA after the 2024-2025 NBA season. Charles Barkley set the record straight on his feelings about this change during an interview on the Dan Patrick Show. With characteristic bluntness, he said “Morale sucks, plain and simple. I just feel so bad for the people I work with.” He sympathizes with his coworkers. He worries for their livelihoods, lamenting to Patrick that they have families to feed and bills to pay. Barkley didn’t hold back on placing the blame, either. He believes his bosses “screwed things up, clearly”.
Chuck hit the nail on the head with this one. Inside the NBA stands head and shoulders above any other broadcast in the sport. The chemistry that has been built between Shaq, Chuck, Ernie and Kenny over the years cannot and will not be replaced. No matter how hard network executives might try, this is a unique batch. However, there is hope. Barkley pitched the idea of running Inside the NBA on his own production company, and hiring anyone displaced by the end of TNT’s run with the program. This highlights what is probably Charles Barkley’s most admirable traits. Despite all his fame, he still makes sure to spotlight the ordinary working people who will suffer the most from this change.
