Guerschon Yabusele is good. If you’re not aware of that, it’s time to start paying attention. You should have known that already after his run in the Olympics but regardless, Yabusele has more than proved he belongs in the NBA. With the 76ers on the outside of the playoff picture, it appears they could opt to sell high on Yabusele.
The Philadelphia Inquirer‘s Keith Pompey said Yabusele is the Philadelphia 76ers’ “most enticing trade target for opposing teams” prior to the February 6th deadline. Pompey lists the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Denver Nuggets as the most likely landing spots.
Yabusele, 29, has averaged 11 points, 5.5 rebounds, and two assists per game for the 76ers this year. He’s also shooting over 40% from three in 46 contests this season. He’s been unbelievable for Philly in that small ball five role being one of the lone bright spots for the 76ers.
I just have one question. Why didn’t the Celtics push harder to sign Yabusele prior to the season? It’s something I screamed about prior to the season and now look at what’s happened. By the way, Yabusele wanted to sign with Boston, considering they were the team who drafted him coming off a title winning season. They just cried poor instead and left the final roster spot open. That part of the equation should be viewed as unforgivable when you’re in win-now mode.
Yabusele would be a great fit in Boston as on off the bench big. He should have never left. If Brad Stevens has any balls, he will do the right thing and bring Yabusele back home.
