The Celtics flushed their second round pick from the 2024 NBA Draft before the conclusion of this season even ended. Boston is giving up on former Gonzaga product Anton Watson after selecting him 54th overall this past year.
Justin Turpin at WEEI was the first to report the news:
Watson was also quickly claimed by the Knicks after being waived by the C’s.
Boston has decided to go with Miles Norris to fill Watson’s spot on a two-way contract.
I have a few thoughts so stick with me as I close out here.
I’m just confused why they cut Watson already. You just picked this guy in the second round. How bad must he have been at practice that you’re willing to cut the cord on this thing this soon?
Boston has had so many failed attempts at trying to find this type of player. It dates all the way back to Guerschon Yabusele, who now thrives with another team. They have been trying to find their version of Draymond Green forever. Yabusele, Xavier Tillman, Watson, etc. It seems like every time they try to their hands on this type of guy they always swing and miss.
I admittedly don’t watch every G League game on Miles Norris but I can’t imagine adding him was worth not seeing things through with Watson. I have a hard time believing Norris will ever crack the C’s roster so why even bother with this?
Oh, and the fact that the Celtics still have the 15th roster spot open drives me insane. Brad Stevens has no problem cutting bait with a young player. He also has no problem bowing his head and saving the ownership group every last penny. That part of this is disgusting.
