In the NBA, there are guys that are dawgs and guys that play basketball because they are good at the game. Jimmy Butler? A Dawg. KAT? A loser who’s good at basketball. Are we understanding the difference? As much as I like Oladipo’s game, he’s just not a dawg. He’s a talented player but I just never saw him take over as he needed to. I might not classify Caris LeVert as a dawg yet, but I have seen him take over games when he needs to. That is what the Pacers needed and they got that.
I applauded the Pacers for being able to snag LeVert in the blockbuster James Harden trade. His fit on the Pacers allows him to grow into a #1 option. He will be better for the Pacers than Oladipo as a player as well. Caris LeVert will now next to Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner, and Malcolm Brogdon. Along with Jeremy Lamb and TJ Warren when they come back from injury. He will have plenty of talented help as he becomes the number 1 guy. Even if he has an off night, his teammates will help.
I liked the Pacers last year. I thought they were incredibly underrated and I still think that now. With LeVert now, they have a chance to make some serious noise in the playoffs. LeVert will take over games for the Pacers if he needs to, and when he doesn’t have to, the Pacers have a solid core of talent to win games anyway. I’m hopeful for the Pacers to gets some playoff wins. We’ll see if they can.
