We all thought DeAndre Hopkins was getting move. I’m just not sure anybody saw Hopkins as being a possible cut candidate. The Cardinals apparently failed or didn’t try to find a trade partner and are just flat out releasing the Pro Bowl level receiver.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:

Hopkins, 30, hasn’t really been shy about wanting out. This isn’t about money for Hopkins anymore. It’s pretty clear that he wants to play for a contender. Given the state of the Cardinals, we know Arizona isn’t remotely close to being in the Super Bowl bubble. They’re basically the antichrist of that statement actually. Arizona is in full tank mode and they also own Houston’s 2024 first rounder in an attempt to build for the future.
Hopkins has been on the block for a good chunk of time now. It’s pretty surprising to see Arizona come away with absolutely nothing. Wide receivers have been at a premium on the trade market and Hopkins is one of the best to do it over the last five years or so.
It will be fascinating to see who ends up signing Hopkins. If you check out his list, it’s all elite quarterbacks. The Patriots have been thought to be a landing spot and maybe shouldn’t be ruled totally out. Is Buffalo the favorite at this point? Can you imagine how good the Eagles will be if they somehow add Hopkins? This feels like one of those rare moments where one signing could swing the balance of power. He’s that good.
