Have we seen the last of DeAndre Hopkins in an Arizona Cardinals jersey? It appears that could be the case. Reports are indicating that Arizona plans to shop Hopkins this upcoming offseason. Of course, with Steve Keim stepping down, we don’t exactly know who will be in charge of personnel yet. Something that should be kept in mind with this report.
Via Jordan Schultz at theScore:
The Arizona Cardinals plan to trade former All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins this offseason, sources tell Jordan Schultz, theScore’s NFL insider.
Hopkins has two years and $34.36 million left on his contract but will likely seek a new deal, according to Schultz.
Owner Michael Bidwill plans to express the idea of moving Hopkins to general manager candidates, adds Schultz.
Hopkins’ contract holds a no-trade clause, and he’d have to approve any deal.
“The 30-year-old is set to earn $19.45 million in base salary and carries a $30.75-million cap hit for the 2023 season, per Spotrac.”
There you have it. If the owner wants it done, then it will get done. Hopkins has been good when healthy but that’s been the issue. Hopkins was suspended for PED use in 2022 and has played in 19 of 34 games over the last two years. It remains to be seen what a trade package will look like. However, I’m sure Arizona will look to acquire more than the second round pick the Texans got in the original trade.
If Hopkins gets dealt, are the Cardinals convinced a starting group of Marquise Brown, Rondale Moore, and Trey McBride is good enough to be surrounded by Kyler Murray?
