Capitals Buy CapFriendly Website

Bagdonas started his offseason guides for the NHL offseason. CapFriendly is a huge resource the public can use to get a great gauge of where each team stands. If you’re a fan of CapFriendly, use it while you still can.

The Washington Capitals are buying the CapFriendly website.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to report the news:

“It won’t happen until July, but according to multiple sources, the Washington Capitals have reached an agreement to purchase the outstanding CapFriendly website.”

“These same sources stressed that both the Capitals and CapFriendly wanted the site to be publicly available and independently operated through the 2024 NHL Draft and the start of free agency, so it is not expected the sale will be official until at least July 5.”

“Neither the team nor CapFriendly representatives would comment. Dominik Zrim, the website’s co-owner and director, has worked in the NHL for Chicago and San Jose.”

If you haven’t pieced together what this means, let me break it down for you quickly. The site will cease to exist for public users. We will no longer have access to the site after July 5th.

At the end of the day, the Capitals are really purchasing the API system here. My question is, why didn’t the Caps already have something like this built-in internally? Seems like an L on their part. In reality, teams should already have had a computer system like this in place.
