If the Celtics have a kryptonite on their roster, it’s probably the fact that they have piss poor wing depth outside of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Well, and the fact that dummy Brad Stevens just traded the heart and soul of the team and the team was already soft. Can Oshae Brissett actually help the Celtics? He’s going to have to or this offseason was a disaster.
Brissett, 25, is going to have to be a factor on this Celtics team. It’s going to be the Brissett and Sam Hauser show when the Celtics go to their bench and I’m just not sure how anybody is excited about it. Say whatever you want about Grand Williams, but I have a hard time believing Brissett can walk in and replace him.
Williams, who just got sent to Dallas this Summer, shot 39.5% from 3-point range last year. Brissett has a career mark of 34.4%. He’s not close to the level of shooter that Grant is. In all honesty, I really don’t have any idea what Brissett brings to the table. Outside of being 6-foot-7 and providing some length, this deal has never made sense to me.
The former Syracuse product went undrafted in 2019. The Raptors are pretty good in the player development department and they didn’t want him despite being from Canada. Toronto waived him a couple of years ago before Brissett landed in Indiana. In his career, Brissett has averaged 7.4 points per game.
Maybe Brissett will prove me wrong but I have absolutely no faith that this guy will provide anything. Maybe I shouldn’t expect anything given the fact that Brissett will be playing on the minimum. It just goes to show how lackluster this offseason was for the Celtics. This bench is a far cry from what it used to be and that’s a problem.
If Brissett and Hauser fail, the Celtics have no options behind Tatum and Brown. It’s basketball malpractice from a roster building standpoint by Stevens.
