Mike Evans just had a monster season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling over 1,000 yards for the seventh straight season and reeling in a career-high 13 touchdowns. Entering the 2021 NFL Season, is Mike Evans going to be a reliable option for 2021 Fantasy Football?
Mike Evans has never finished below 1,000 receiving yards in a season. It seems he’s basically a lock to get those yards every year. Tom Brady loves him as a red zone threat, so his career-high touchdown numbers from last season might not be too far off from what we can expect this season.
Evans is almost too touchdown-dependent to be a safe pick in the early rounds of fantasy drafts. Around 40% of his fantasy production last year was just from his touchdowns. It was also his first double-digit touchdown year since 2016. That suggests that Evans could be a very volatile or inconsistent pickup this year. One year with Tom Brady isn’t enough of a sample size to suggest that such production continues. He didn’t see a huge target share, which raises some concerns regarding the sustainability of Evans’ numbers. If Antonio Brown sees a bigger role in the offense, Evans’ targets could even go down from where they were in 2020.
Overall, I’m undecided on Mike Evans. He could be a big-time touchdown guy for the second consecutive year, or he could be a major bust.
