Can Justin Jefferson Be Even Better With Kevin O’Connell As HC?

The Minnesota Vikings found an absolute stud when they selected Justin Jefferson with their 22nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Since entering the league, Jefferson has 196 catches, 3016 yards, and 17 touchdowns. To say that he has exceeded all expectations is an understatement, but with new head coach Kevin O’Connell coming in, is there even more room for growth? If he can have the same growth as Cooper Kupp had under him, the sky is the limit.

“I’m excited, honestly,” Jefferson told PFT Live on Thursday regarding the expectation that the Rams offensive coordinator will be taking over the Vikings early next week. “I’m excited for him. I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about him. Just like you said, watching Cooper Kupp this whole season, he’s been killing it. He’s been wide open pretty much every single play. I’m excited for it. This’ll be my first coach on the offensive side. I’m excited.”

Not only is Justin Jefferson excited, but all Vikings fans should be as well. Jefferson could have a career year this year, and take that next step into becoming a leader on this team as well.

“I think that now it’s becoming year three and I did the things I had done in my first two seasons,” Jefferson said. “I feel like this is the year I become more of a leader. More [of a] captain of the team. Just being more vocal. The first two seasons, you’re new to the building, you’re the rookie, you’re the new guy. A lot of people don’t really, I guess not technically listen to you.”

Justin Jefferson is well on his way to superstardom. Every game, he is showing why he should have been WR1 drafted in his draft class and he is making everyone pay for it (sorry Eagles fans). With an offensive-minded HC coming in like Kevin O’Connell, with the right tinkering not only can this offense thrive, but we could see Jefferson have his best year yet.
