Trey is doing fantasy basketball for the first time ever. It’s only my first year and I didn’t do a ton of research minus scrolling through some of the rules. I’m quite sure I will one day master it like I have with hockey. However, this year will likely be a learning curve and I can already tell I have one major regret. I should have drafted Cam Thomas who appears to be a fantasy basketball cheat code.
Here’s a stat. Last season Cam Thomas averaged 28 shot attempts per 100 possessions. That ranked 4th in the NBA behind Jalen Brunson, Luka Doncic, and Steph Curry. In the first game of the season, Thomas shot the ball 27 times and scored 63 fantasy points. It’s going to be like that all season given the fact that Brooklyn sucks and he’s just taking over as the alpha in the offense.
Drafting for the first time, I may have overvalued the efficiency part of fantasy. You get dinged for missing shots in fantasy but it’s just not detrimental enough to pass on self pricks like Thomas. It is what it is. Thomas should have been a first round pick with all of that in mind.
On this Nets team, Thomas will be given the green light to pretty much do whatever he wants. I’m envious of people who were smart enough to draft him. If you’re able to, I’d trade for this guy in a heartbeat. Not saying this will last forever but on this current iteration of the Nets, the former LSU product is a steal in all fantasy formats.
