The Hall of Fame Game between the Texans and Bears was mostly a snoozefest. It even ended early because the weather didn’t cooperate. However, it was our first look at Cam Akers in Houston and it’s hard not to think about the implications in fantasy football. What if Akers is a hidden gem in Houston?
The guy is never healthy but he’s talented. Are we sure he can’t become a factor in this backfield? A backfield that runs the same style rushing attack that the 49ers do with Shanahan. Houston was really bad at running the football last year. Houston ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing last year and are built on the play-action pass. That number HAS to get better. With the development of CJ Stroud and the addition of Stefon Diggs creating another threat for defenses, the run game has to get better, right?
The other options are running back are flawed too. Joe Mixon is old and is also dealing with a hamstring injury. Dameon Pierce has zero burst and has always been a fraud. Why not Akers?
I know what you’re thinking. You have been burned by Akers before so you’re not even considering it. I get it. Don’t let Sean McVay’s hatred affect your judgment. Akers is free in every draft and costs nothing to add to your roster. Don’t even do anything yet. Let’s see how the rest of the preseason shakes out. All I’m saying is Akers taking over this backfield in Houston doesn’t feel impossible… and it would be a really good team to be part of.
