Another big-name quarterback will be on the move in 2025 as California QB Fernando Mendoza enters his name in the portal. Mendoza is coming off a fantastic sophomore year for the Golden Bears. The QB threw for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only threw six interceptions. Mendoza had some help with a strong running game but did his part to look like a capable second-year starter. Now, the young 6 foot 5 inch 225 pound QB should be a hot commodity in the transfer portal.
Fernando Mendoza played both of his collegiate seasons at California. He improved in many different aspects this season and that showed in the Golden Bears record. California beat Auburn, had a one-point loss to No. 8 Miami and a two-point loss to No. 22 Pitt. Ultimately, Mendoza and company played well enough to make a bowl game. Now, Mendoza is ranked as the 29th transfer player and the 5th overall transfer quarterback according to on3.
Fernando Mendoza should receive a lot of attention from multiple Power Four programs. He has everything a team could desire if they believe in his talent. For example, he has the size and the experience as a starter, and he is still young with multiple years of eligibility left. It would not shock me to see Mendoza as the signal caller for a big program next year. There have already been some big transfers such as QB Darian Mensah and QB Thomas Castellanos. Now, it will be interesting to see where QB Fernando Mendoza will go in the transfer portal.
