Caitlin Clark Left Off 2024 Team USA Olympic Team Roster

Multiple reports around the league have confirmed that Caitlin Clark will not be on the US women’s Olympic basketball team this summer.

The Olympic committee has expressed a clear preference for veteran talent for the 2024 Paris Games. The team will mostly consist of former Olympians and WNBA champs. Notable names include Brittney Griner, Kelsey Plum, Sabrina Ionescu and Diana Taurasi.

This will be Taurasi’s record-breaking sixth trip to the Olympics.

Caitlin Clark’s non-selection can be boiled down to two factors: A lack of experience and a lack of participation in Olympic workouts.

Clark was invited to the Olympic national training camp in Cleveland this year, but was unable to participate as she was leading Iowa in the NCAA Final Four at the time. She has plenty of collegiate success to speak for, but hasn’t completed her rookie season yet.

The Indiana Fever’s poor record (3-9) is certainly not helping her case, either. Of the players named to the Olympic roster, their proven track records speak for themselves. There are literally dozens of MVP awards, All-Star selections plus WNBA and Olympic championships shared between them.

However, there’s no other way to put it: the Olympic committee is making a huge mistake here.

Caitlin Clark’s meteoric rise to stardom is putting women’s sports on the map in a way most people wouldn’t have considered possible until now. The Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics sold out their recent game in the nation’s capital at 20,000 seats.

You can’t attribute this to anyone but Clark. Her talent is clearly there. She dropped 30 against the Mystics, going 7-13 from beyond the arc. She’s not just the future of women’s basketball. She’s the now. The Olympic committee better come to their senses next time around.
