Willy Adames signed the biggest contract in San Francisco Giants history this offseason. He surpassed Buster Posey on that list, and Posey was the one who, oddly enough, gave the contract out.
Does anybody remember what I said would happen?
Let’s do a quick check-in on how Adames is doing in San Francisco…
Yikes…
Sure, it’s early. Maybe it’s foolish to call that take a win yet. Posey recently went on a radio show and advised fans to be patient. That he’s not even worried about Adames.
VIA KNBR’s “Murph and Markus.”:
“Be patient.”
“It’s not uncommon when superstar players sign a big deal and struggle out the gate,” Posey said.
“I’ve gone through it as a player when you struggle,” Posey said. “It’s rough. I mean, I didn’t, you don’t sleep well, it’s on your mind all the time.”
“For this guy to show up and be the same each and every day, it’s pretty remarkable,” Posey said. “He’s truly a leader, and I’ve got belief that offensively he’s going to find his groove here. He’s always been a bit of a streaky hitter, so hoping that hot stretch is right around the corner.”
Adames, 29, has been awful thus far with the Giants. He’s slashing .209/.287/.332 on the season and is fifth-worst among 30 qualified shortstops this season in fielding percentage (.961).
My stance hasn’t changed. Not sure what I can say that I haven’t already. It’s a joke that anybody gave Adames this type of contract, and the Giants will live to regret it.
