The Elias Lindholm connection to Boston felt obvious for months. Something I talked about way back in May. The Bruins have finally found a center and Lindholm is officially on his way to Beantown.
The Bruins have signed Lindholm to a seven year deal worth $7.75 million. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet was the first to report the news.
Lindholm, 29, posted 44 points in 75 games in a down year. He was just never a fit in Vancouver for whatever reason. Otherwise, he’s a great 200-foot player and a Selke candidate year in and year out. Two years ago, Lindholm had 82 points. Maybe he can get back to that point in a big role with the Bruins skating with David Pastrnak.
The Bruins did not stop there. They’re also adding defenseman Nikita Zadorov. His deal will come in at six years while carrying an AAV of $5 million per season. Zadorov will take over for Matt Grzelcyk, who will not return and is on his way to Pittsburgh.
The Bruins needed a center in the worst way. After Patrice Bergeron retired, it’s been a black hole up top on the first line. This fit with Lindholm just makes way too much sense for so many reasons. Charlie Coyle and Pavel Zacha can now slide down the lineup in a more suitable role for those players.
Quick side note: The Bruins already had Hampus Lindholm. It just feels right that they landed the other notable Lindholm, doesn’t it?
