After a lengthy tenure in Colorado, the Denver Broncos have released star kicker Brandon McManus, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. McManus is the last remaining member of the Broncos’ most recent Super Bowl-winning team (2015) and has been kicking for the franchise since 2014.
Denver Broncos general manager George Paton offered some parting words following McManus’ release.
“Brandon has been a key player and presence with the Broncos for nearly a decade, making outstanding contributions to our team and community,” Paton said in a statement Tuesday. “Developing into one of the NFL’s most productive kickers, Brandon made so many clutch kicks for this franchise over the years as a Super Bowl champion and team captain. He will always hold a special place in Denver Broncos history. We thank Brandon for all he did for the Broncos, and we wish him and his family the very best in the future.”
McManus has been regarded as one of the best kickers since his rookie year in 2014. Over the course of his career, the veteran kicker has had an 81.4% field goal percentage in nine seasons. McManus has made 223 field goals and over 270 extra points in his nine-year career. On top of that, the former Broncos kicker accumulated almost 1,000 total points.
But McManus isn’t the only kicker in need for a job this upcoming season. Veteran kickers Robbie Gould, Mason Crosby, Brett Maher, and Ryan Succop are all in need of a new home this season. The Dallas Cowboys are one team to watch out for, as they’re in desperate need of a new kicker.
Keep an eye out for McManus and the other quartet of veteran kickers to be signed to a squad this upcoming season.
