Broderick Jones 2023 NFL Draft Profile

These Georgia boys are good. It seems like they are putting out elite talent every year over the last half-decade. This year is highlighted by Jalen Carter and Broderick Jones, the subject of this 2023 NFL Draft Profile. Jones played blindside protector for Stetson Bennett as they repeated as national champions last season. What does his outlook look like in the NFL? Let’s talk about it.

Jones was a five-star recruit coming out of high school, and the third-ranked tackle in the country.  He redshirted his first year, but played the final four games for the Bulldogs in 2021, earning SEC-All freshman team. He was AP first team All-SEC in 2022. He also has a background in basketball as well as playing throughout high school. Trey’s notes from the combine were almost all positive, highlighted by good control, solid in the pull drill, and is a wall of a lineman.

Jones is super athletic. He is a runaway train when he is the puller on run plays and gets downhill. He knows where to put his hands and uses his punch to his advantage, even if this is an area of improvement. I don’t think blocking in a zone or power scheme should be an issue. No sacks allowed this year, that’s huge. He’s as strong as an ox but can finesse himself to adapt to speed rushers. Moves up to the next level with ease. Playing in the SEC gives him an advantage over other tackles in the country in that he goes up against premier talent on a week-to-week basis.

Broderick Jones is among the best tackles in the 2023 NFL Draft class. Jones is a sure-fire first-round pick, and I would go as far as to give him a top-20 grade in this class. With a handful of teams needing help at his position, if he makes it past the Pittsburgh Steelers at 17, I would be shocked. He is a plug-and-play starter and will anchor the blindside of an offensive line for a long time. Teams would be foolish to pass on him if he’s still on the board and tackle is a position of need.
