Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE on the June 17 episode of Smackdown. It was the first time we have seen Lesnar since he lost his WWE Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38. Lesnar isn’t known for wrestling a lot of matches in a year, but he has to make some appearances to build momentum heading into SummerSlam.
Lesnar is set to make an appearance on the two Smackdown shows before SummerSlam. TD Garden and State Farm Arena both tweeted out that Lesnar was going to be at Smackdown on July 22 and July 29.
Brock is going to take on Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing Match at SummerSlam on July 30th. However, that wasn’t the original plan for Reigns. Reigns was going to face Randy Orton at this year’s SummerSlam, as reported by Wrestling Inc. But according to Fightful Select, Orton suffered an injury and WWE feared he was going to need surgery. With Orton sidelined, WWE turned to Lesnar to challenge Roman for the titles.
Since Lesnar is set to appear on the two Smackdown shows before SummerSlam, WWE is going to have to work fast to give him some much-needed momentum. With him and Roman in the same building there is no telling what is going to happen. Although it is unlikely Brock will have matches, his presence is enough. Lesner simply being in the building will help rebuild this feud. Lesnar is going to be hunting for revenge in the weeks leading up to the premium live event. I can only imagine the pure chaos he will cause on the Smackdown shows he is going to appear at.
