Brian Cashman Prefers Yankees Stay Under Luxury Tax In 2019

I said it before and I’ll say it again. The big, bad Yankees that we grew up with are dead. The second that George Steinbrenner died, he took that fear and mystique with him. Once again we have news that the Yankees are turning into the mid-market St. Louis Cardinals instead of the Evil Empire. Brian Cashman was asked about his plans to spend this offseason. Brian Cashman claims he prefers to stay under the luxury tax in 2019.

Arash Madani of Sportsnet in Canada had the following:

Not a line in a sand, but a preference, Brian Cashman says, for the Yankees to remain under the luxury tax “to not line the pockets of opponents to use that (revenue) against us.”

The tax threshold is set at $206 million in 2019. After signing CC Sabathia to a one-year deal, the Yankees have roughly $50 million to spend before hitting the $206 million mark. The problem isn’t his spending intentions to remain under, it’s the fact that Cashman keeps running his mouth. This guy is a PR nightmare.

The Yankees fan has now become tortured. The Red Sox have turned into the big, bad wolf. The little brother turned into the more successful sibling. The Red Sox are the team with the highest payroll in baseball. Hey, Cashman… you dumb f*ck… here’s how you respond to a question about the luxury tax –

“We’re the New York Yankees. This is a proud franchise. (Trey Daubert said, future general manager) My job is to put the best baseball team out on the field as possible. We’re going to do what makes sense in terms of acquiring players that help us win a World Series”

That’s Some Cheese – Episode 19 – 4.6.18

Cashman is one of those guys that is so smart that he’s actually dumb. Kinda like how Albert Einstein was super smart but he had no idea how to actually interact with people. How does he not understand that he sucks with the media by now? He called the Red Sox the Warriors after they traded for Chris Sale and then twiddled his thumbs and did nothing. He then had the damage quote that started the engines for the 2018 Red Sox championship. Now he is talking about staying under the luxury tax? Buddy, just shut your mouth. Even if that is your intentions, why on god’s green earth would you let people know that’s the case.
