What are the Chiefs doing with L’Jarius Sneed? Can Brett Veach be trusted to handle this situation? So far it’s a yes. (Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports)

Brett Veach Is Handling The L’Jarius Sneed Situation Correctly

Before we begin, I would just like to remind you of what I said about Brett Veach last year. I still feel that way today. The fact of the matter is, if the Chiefs actually drafted well, they would be in this position more often. The position of having no idea how to pay guys on your roster because of the franchise quarterback tax. Except the Chiefs haven’t been here before. No, Tyreek Hill doesn’t count. L’Jarius Sneed needs to be paid and it’s not going to be cheap.

We’ve been over the list of mistakes Veach has made 1,000 times. Taking the K-State guy last year at the back end of the first round was a joke. Ditto for Clyde Edwards-Helaire before that. This idiot really gave Jawaan Taylor $80 million. They still won another Super Bowl. If anything, I speaks to how incompetent the rest of the league is.

The Chiefs have about $9 million in cap space after they eventually tag Sneed. That’s while Chris Jones isn’t under contract. Something has to give. Veach is doing what he should do. Playing his options.

KC is going to hit the former Louisiana Tech product with the tag. He’s also going to give Sneed the ability to explore the market and seek a trade. It’s really what the Ravens did with Lamar Jackson a year ago. If you want Sneed, feel free to send us two first round picks back or something comparable while handing him a mega extension. If nobody is willing to do that, we’ll happily bring him back.

Except, one team might be crazy enough to do exactly that. Maybe not two first round picks but something enough for the Chiefs to bite. Especially where the Chiefs are cap wise.

Keep in mind that it’s a really strong cornerback class this year in terms of the NFL Draft. There are going to be names available in this class that you’re going to really like. If you get a bundle of draft assets that make trading him worth it, you have to consider it.
