Robert Spillane Signs With The New England Patriots

Former Raiders LB Robert Spillane has signed with the New England Patriots. This was first reported by Ian Rapoport on BlueSky:

A fan favorite in Las Vegas finds a new home. Robert Spillane has signed with the New England Patriots. He signed a 3-year, $37.5 million with $20.6 million guaranteed. As much as the Raiders loved him, they couldn’t afford that price tag for him. After Drake Maye showed promise in his rookie season, the Patriots are wasting no time to try to contend while Maye still has his rookie contract. After an impressive two seasons with the Raiders after racking up his tackle total, Spillane gets a nice little payday. Spillane had 82 and 91 solo tackles in the past two years and also had 148 and 158 combo tackles with the Raiders. He also improved his pass coverage slightly and had 5 interceptions over the last two years.

The Raiders will have to look elsewhere for talent at Inside LB. Despite the Raiders having cap space to spend, they might be trying to spend it wisely to have quality depth on the team rather than making big splashes like Spillane. The Patriots have spent a lot of money this offseason on players like Milton Williams, Harold Landry III, and Carlton Davis. Milton Williams went for 4 years and $104 million, Harold Landry III went for 3 years and $43.5 million, and Carlton Davis went for 3 years and $60 million. If you throw in Spillane’s contract in there, the Patriots spent $245 million total just on day 1 of 2025 NFL Free Agency. They’re trying all they can do on Drake Maye’s rookie contract, we will see if it works out.
