Brayden Schenn Penalty Box Blues

Colorado and the St. Louis Blues kicked off game 1 of round 2 last night in Denver. To call it a thriller would be an understatement.

Let’s chat about Brayden Schenn. With a little less than 2 minutes to go in the third period, chaos was happening towards the blue line. Josh Manson was hit and fell and Brayden Schenn was paying little to no attention to where his stick was and whacked homie in the face. He obviously got called for high sticking. Mr. Schenn was absolutely appalled that he would get called for such a thing. High sticking is officially defined by the USA Hockey as,

“When a player intentionally or inadvertently plays the puck or makes contact with an opponent with their stick above the height of the shoulders or above the crossbar of the net.”

Now, I’m no scientist but I’m pretty damn sure your face is above your shoulders. ANYWAYS. No one really argued the call that was made…except for Schenn who was screaming at the refs and linesmen that it wasn’t, in fact, a high stick. He was so pissed off and unable to properly cope with his emotions that he BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THE CAMERA IN THE PENALTY BOX. Sir, are you 9 years old? Get a fucking grip. First of all, it doesn’t matter that the stick was at YOUR ankles. It was at HIS face. Second of all, WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING AT THE LINESMAN???? HE HAS NO SAY IN THE MATTER. HIS JOB IS TO STARE AT THE LINES. Third, what did the camera ever do to you? He does his job correctly.

Please don’t screw this up. Thanks.

The rest of the game was very back and forth and it made me a little nervous. The first-period scoring was started by Blues captain, Ryan O’Reilly. However, early in the second period Valeri Nichushkin sent one straight through Jordan Binnington to tie it up. I think Colorado hit the post about 8 times and I was actually starting to think that they made the net smaller. Samuel Girard gave Colorado a 2-1 lead about halfway through the second period. Jordan Kyrou was quick to shit on that parade in the last 5 minutes of regulation. But thank the hockey gods for Josh Manson who gave Colorado the overtime winner and allowed me to go to sleep at a somewhat decent time before I went to the gym at 8:00 this morning.

Game two of this series will be on Thursday at 7:30 MST in my homeland, Denver, Colorado. For all you east coasters who can’t do timezone math, that’s 9:30 eastern time.
